If you visit the Western Physician

A number of nonprescription (over-the-counter) agents can help control the pain as well as actually prevent the menstrual cramps themselves. For mild cramps, aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol), or acetaminophen plus a diuretic (Diurex MPR, FEM-1, Midol, Pamprin, Premsyn, and others) may be sufficient. However, aspirin has limited effect in curbing the production of prostaglandin and is only useful for less painful cramps.

The main agents for treating moderate menstrual cramps are the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which lower the production of prostaglandin and lessen its effect. The NSAIDs that do not require a prescription are:

  1. ibuprofen (Advil, Midol IB, Motrin, Nuprin, and others);
  2. naproxen sodium (Aleve, Anaprox); and
  3. ketoprofen (Actron, Orudis KT).

A woman should start taking one of these medications before her pain becomes difficult to control. This might mean starting medication 1 to 2 days before her period is due to begin and continuing taking medication 1-2 days into her period. The best results are obtained by taking one of the NSAIDs on a scheduled basis and not waiting for the pain to begin.

Prescription NSAIDs available for the treatment of menstrual cramps include mefenamic acid (Ponstel) and meclofenamate (Meclomen).

Home Remedies

Ginger Tea with brown sugar

Ginger tea has already been known to help stomach aches and now research has been shown it to relax tense muscles and ease menstrual cramps. Research shows that it is the gingerols that give ginger its’ incredible healing properties. Gingerols are natural pain killers that warm the muscles, put a damper on menstrual cramps and stimulate blood flow to the muscles so they can heal more rapidly.

Ginger tea is also filled with loads of magnesium and with vitamin C, which relax the nervous system and help to lower stress hormone levels. To use, put three to four ginger tea bags into your bath water. As your body soaks in the soothing bath water, its hardworking plant compounds will soak into your pores.

Just the scent of the ginger, as you breathe it inside of you, helps to relax your body, mind and your soul. It is such a relaxing scent. Let it fill you up as you lay in the water and relax.

Hot Chocolate with Almond Milk

This hot chocolate is made with dark cocoa powder and almond milk, both of which are packed with magnesium. Evidence suggests magnesium deficiency may be a cause of menstrual pain in some women and that restoring magnesium levels to normal can progressively reduce the severity and duration of menstrual cramps. Magnesium has also been shown to relieve back pain associated with menstruation.

Hot or Cold Treatment

Heat helps, so throw a heating pad into the microwave or fill a hot water bottle and place it on your stomach or back. However, for some women, a build-up of blood in their pelvis may be the culprit behind their cramps, in which case an ice pack is actually more useful than a heat pack. The cold from the ice pack works to draw the blood out of the pelvis and towards the extremities. Try using both kinds of packs to see which is best for you.

Hey girls, if you are often trouble by menstrual cramp, try out these home remedies for a quick cure! As you know your body the best, look out if you are allergic to any of the drugs or herbs for your menstrual cramp treatment.

Facts on Menstrual Cramps

22 Nov

What are menstrual cramps?

Menstrual cramps are pains in the belly and pelvic areas that are experienced by a woman as a result of her menstrual period. Menstrual cramps are not the same as the discomfort felt during premenstrual syndrome (PMS), although the symptoms of both disorders can sometimes be experienced as a continual process. Many women suffer from both PMS and menstrual cramps.

Menstrual cramps can range from mild to quite severe. Mild menstrual cramps may be barely noticeable and of short duration sometimes felt just as a sense of light heaviness in the belly. Severe menstrual cramps can be so painful that they interfere with a woman’s regular activities for several days.

How common are menstrual cramps?

Menstrual cramps of some degree affect more than an estimated 50% of women, and among these, up to 15% would describe their menstrual cramps as severe. Surveys of adolescent girls show that over 90% of girls report having menstrual cramps.

What is dysmenorrhea?

The medical term for menstrual cramps is dysmenorrhea. There are two types of dysmenorrhea, primary and secondary.

In primary dysmenorrhea, there is no underlying gynecologic problem causing the pain. This type of cramping may begin within six months to a year following menarche (the beginning of menstruation), the time when a girl starts having menstrual periods. Menstrual cramps typically do not begin until ovulatory menstrual cycles (when an egg is released from the ovaries) occur, and actual menstrual bleeding usually begins before the onset of ovulation. Therefore, an adolescent girl may not experience dysmenorrhea until months to years following the onset of menstruation.

In secondary dysmenorrhea, some underlying abnormal condition (usually involving a woman’s reproductive system) contributes to the menstrual pain. Secondary dysmenorrhea may be evident at menarche but, more often, the condition develops later.

What causes menstrual cramps?

Each month, the inner lining of the uterus (the endometrium) normally builds up in preparation for a possible pregnancy. After ovulation, if the egg is not fertilized by a sperm, no pregnancy will result and the current lining of the uterus is no longer needed. The woman’s estrogen and progesterone hormone levels decline, and the lining of the uterus becomes swollen and is eventually shed as the menstrual flow and is replaced by a new lining in the next monthly cycle.

When the old uterine lining begins to break down, molecular compounds called prostaglandins are released. These compounds cause the muscles of the uterus to contract. When the uterine muscles contract, they constrict the blood supply (vasoconstriction) to the endometrium. This contraction blocks the delivery of oxygen to the tissue of the endometrium which, in turn, breaks down and dies. After the death of this tissue, the uterine contractions literally squeeze the old endometrial tissue through the cervix and out of the body by way of the vagina. Other substances known as leukotrienes, which are chemicals that play a role in the inflammatory response, are also elevated at this time and may be related to the development of menstrual cramps.

Why are some cramps so painful?

Menstrual cramps are caused by the uterine contractions that occur in response to prostaglandins and other chemicals. The cramping sensation is intensified when clots or pieces of bloody tissue from the lining of the uterus pass through the cervix, especially if a woman’s cervical canal is narrow.

The difference between menstrual cramps that are more painful and those that are less painful may be related to a woman’s prostaglandin levels. Women with menstrual cramps have elevated levels of prostaglandins in the endometrium (uterine lining) when compared with women who do not experience cramps. Menstrual cramps are very similar to those a pregnant woman experiences when she is given prostaglandin as a medication to induce labor.

Now that you know the causes of your cramps, in the next post, Girly editor will share some tips on how to reduce those nasty cramps! Both the TCM, scientific physcian and the myths that you hear from your girly friends…

See ya till then..!

I still want my killer heels!

28 Oct

Hey girls, we know there may be many and grave disadvantages, but this can’t and won’t stop us from wearing our favorite type of shoes.

There are simple tricks that we can put in practice so that we will still care for our body and look fabulous.

1. Look for shoes with thicker soles, so that it would absorb the impact of steps itself, increasing the time we can walk without feeling pain.

2. When we know we are going to be walking, standing or traveling for a long time, we can use a simple trick: bring a comfortable shoe with us. This way we can freely change out of them whenever we feel like it. Sneakers these days have beautiful designs, but flat shoes and low heels are great too, such as the cute and stylish ballet flats.

3. Also, we can always keep some sneakers in our car, and this way we can avoid the muscle ache that comes with driving with high heels, simply changing out of then as we reached our destination

4.Try shopping for shoes at the end of the night, when the foot is slightly swollen. If we will stand in them for a long time it will become swollen, and we will see how it feels, so it wouldn’t be unbearable.

5. Variate between low and high heels, limiting the time we wear them. We won’t get too used to either of them, and we’ll avoid the muscle ache.

For instant relief of aches, it is highly recommend to pamper ourselves with a nice feet massage and soaking it in lukewarm water. It will drive away the feeling of having our feet stuck in a painful pose we can’t get it out of.

Here are some tools to prevent blisters:

Alternatively you can try rubbing vasaline on those highly abrasion areas.

To deal with the nasty blisters these are what you can do:

  • When using the needle to drain the blister make sure needle is sterilized with alcohol or boiling water.
  • Don’t pick at it too much to avoid infection.
  • Try not to detach the skin that covers the blister. It offers natural protection for the raw skin underneath.
  • Aloe Vera is also an effective way to heal the blister throughout. Just rub some on the blistered area with the aloe vera and it should go away in a couple of days to a week.
  • Before draining or treating the blister, buy a special blister plaster and put in onto the blister. This is medicated and will dry the blister, so you may not need to take any further action.

For girls who are experiencing prolong backaches its time you do something about it before it worsen. Try seeking advice from a Chiropractor.

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicinethat emphasizes diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, under the hypothesis that these disorders affect general health via the nervous system.

Alright girls, that will be all for this week! Both flat, low and high heeled shoes have their pros and cons, but if we can prevent health issues, then no matter which we choose, we can use them in our life and be stylish with them!Keep the pointers in mind and we shall still look pretty in our killer heels without killing ourselves!

In memories of Alexander Mcqueen let’s look at some her extreme master pieces before we end off…

Love-Hate relationship for high heels

25 Oct

This week girly editor is going to tell you the pros and cons of wearing our killer heels. We all know it’s really painful to wear them at times but we simply can’t ditch the confidence it gives us.

You don’t have to stop wearing them, you just need to wear them the right way. Read on and girly editor will show you how…

First let’s look at why we girls go gaga over high heels:

 The advantages are crystal clear.

Firstly, wearing high heels boost our confidence, makes us look and feel sexy, attractive women that we are.

It also accentuates our curves at the right place by changing our posture, bringing our chest forward and pushing our waistline back.

By wearing high heeled shoes we can improve our height, becoming taller. An advantage especially to shorter women. Heels makes us slimmer by proportioning the body and making the legs longer.

The muscles in our body contract and relax. The calf contracts and adjusts to the angle we keep our feet in. Heels make them shorten and tighten making our legs look like we’ve been working out.

Last but not least, it reflects our personality and can give an air of authority, intimidating others. Great to wear to the office with a power suit as well as on a simple walk with our favorite t-shirt and jeans.

And reasons why we hate heels:

The disadvantages are less visible, however we can feel them every time we stand too much time in those favorite heels of ours or take them off at the end of the day. There are the problems that we cannot see, however, those can be serious ones, causing changes to our body that may be irreversible.

The advantages of accentuating our body only come when we can actually walk in our heels. Be that kitten heels or stilettos, we need to be capable of properly walking in them, without wobbling and limping, making fun of ourselves. We don’t need to do the professional catwalk, however we don’t want to end up falling flat on our face, disgracing ourselves in public.

The damage that high heels can cause to our bone structure is drastic.
Without the right position while walking in heels we don’t just look weird, it damages our spine and knees.

Girly: Do you know that heels that are two inches or higher propel the body forward, turning the simple act of walking into an awkward chore. They also point the foot downward, reducing its ability to flex and absorb shock. This leaves areas like the knees and hip joints to pick up the slack, which can aggravate and sometimes even cause arthritis?

We can easily get ankle injuries, hammertoe or bunions if not wearing a comfortable shoe, even end up with a twisted ankle if the straps don’t fit properly, holding our ankle in the right place.

While wearing heels, our weight is redistributed. By this all our weight is forced on the balls of our feet causing pinching pain. If we don’t watch out and force the pain, thinking it would eventually go away we will end up with Metatarsalgia, a common problem that comes from the pain of joints and bones in the metatarsal.

Knee joint pain increases with 26% while wearing heels, and this only increases, depending on how high the heels.

Often we make the mistake of not breaking in our brand new shoes for a big event by this causing huge amount of pain on the big day, bruises and blisters.

But I know we just can’t give up on heels. Fret not girls! In the next post, read on to find out how we can stand tall without fear of aches and pains…

Chicken rice tour

14 Oct

Hi there, it’s been a while since Girly editor blogged about food. This week we shall go for one of Singaporean’s favourite food, Hainanese chicken rice. Hainanese Chicken rice is truly Singapore’s iconic food, you can see it everywhere in almost any hawker or foodcourt and most of the time well liked by tourist too. However most of the time some are losing the authentic aroma, so today, girly editor show you some top rating chicken rice places that retains the authentic flavor!

Boon Tong Kee

Talking  about the history of chicken rice, you will definitely not miss out Boon Tong kee.

In 1979, Mr. Thian Boon Hua started a small stall in Chinatown serving Cantonese chicken rice. Building upon the popularity of his silky white sauce chicken rice and emphasis on quality service, he rallied his family members to establish Boon Tong Kee’s first restaurant at Balestier Road in 1983.

In its second year of operation, the restaurant started to garner rave reviews and accolades from industry luminaries and customers. Before long, outlets at MacPherson Road, Whampoa West, River Valley Road, Cheong Chin Nam Road and East Coast Road followed in rapid succession.

The company diversified its operations in 1999 to include “Zi Char” (home-style cooked food) and eateries. From the traditional Balestier Road outlet to the upscale River Valley branch, Boon Tong Kee has enthralled Singaporeans and tourists alike with its delectable food and friendly staff.

Thien Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice & Steamboat

Next up, it’s a place for family and friends gathering. Thien Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice at Golden Mile Complex. This is a place where you will see it crowded with people everytime you are there, almost everyone who had tried has good things to say about it. The chicken based soup for the steamboat is clear yet flavourful, trust me, will can’t stop drinking!

Back to the main attraction chicken rice, the meat is really tender even the meat is infused with the aroma of sesame oil.

Not to forget the rice is bursting with flavor! It is so nice you can have it on its own!

SPACE @ My Humble House

If you are concern about the ambiance where you have food you must try SPACE is at Esplanade.

Driven by popular demand for a more casual dining place at Esplanade, Space @ My Humble House was opened in August 2004. Designed by internationally renowned design guru Mr Junpei Yamagiwa and his team from Myu Planning, Tokyo, this casual-chic 34-seater restaurant sits next to My Humble House. The restaurant is conceptualized with the theatre-goers at The Esplanade in mind, and most items on the menu, which features Singapore’s favourite local fare with a twist, are one-dish meals of salads, soups, rice, noodles or a light snack.

And here we are with the Hainanese chicken rice set at approximately $12.90,comes with a mushroom chicken soup. A brand new experience to have chicken rice and some other local delights with a twist.

Here are some you must try.

Ideas for the girlfriend…

7 Oct

Girly editor knows that you girls are all busy, so we have come out with some ideas that are less time consuming so that it will not be a hassle to prepare.

There are simple things we can do:

1. Plan for a short get away

Bali – Private Villa

Well, if you have more time you might consider a 2-3days short get away either in nearby countries. This is suitable for couples who stay with their family members, and would like to have a total privacy time with their partners. Places like Batam, Bali or even Pot Dickson and Cameron Highlands in Malaysia are great places for some fresh air and natural scenery. If you are there with an objective to spend some quality time with your partner, bear in mind not to join any day tour or pack your itinerary with the places of interest. Let every activity be impromptu so that you will not feel the time constrain for every activity.

Cameron Highlands Tea Plantation

Famous resort in Batam – 1hr ferry ride from Singapore

2. Whipping up a simple meal, breakfast in bed

Who says that we can only laze on the bed of villas and resort? When is the last time you appreciate your own home décor? If you think that you can’t stand staying at home, its time to reflect and start cleaning up. Because home is suppose to be some place you really look forward to after a long day of work and it’s the most convenient and cost effect place for whipping up a meal. A meal does not have to be as complicated as a 5 course meal. A simple breakfast can be food like waffles, sandwiches, eggs and sausages. Couple can spend more time snuggling in bed and feeding each other.

3. Simple picnic, sunset or sunrise view

Do you agree that the simplest thing in life can be the best thing in life? Sometimes all we want is a time when we can really keep our minds clear and spend your time doing nothing at all! If you think that every outing must have the purpose, you will realize that you are more wear out after the break. An outing with your partner can be simple yet lovely. The love birds can just lie around on a mat or in a tent munching on your favorite chips and soft drinks, reading the story book or magazine you always wanted to read but you never had the time or do wonders on your ipad but not for work purpose.

Picnic places in Singapore: Marina Barrage, East Coast Park, Botanical Gardens and all major parks.

Hmm…how do you think about these ideas?

Shall we do something other than beauty tips next week?

Girly editor heard your groaning stomachs; we shall go for a chicken rice feast next week! Stay tune for places you can go for Singapore’s Signature food!

Be a better Girlfriend 1

4 Oct

Dear girls, this week girly editor give you tips on becoming a better girlfriend/wife. We know that you have read a lot of these but did you really give some thoughts on it? And it s never bad to recap as we will take things for granted along our way…So here’s how:

1. Respect

As much as you would like to be his everything and centre of attraction, respect his interest. Respect his interests and topics of conversation. You don’t have to act like you love his hobbies, but at least try to understand why he’s such a fan. If he loves cars, soccer and gadgets, understand why. If he just loves to be playful and immature, remember that it might just be his way of releasing stress.

Girly: This is exactly like how we girls get excited over make-ups and stuffs!

2. Be yourself

Never lie to impress him, don’t try to make him jealous, and don’t lead him on if you’re not into everything. Those things are wrong, and if you feel the need to do that then you don’t know the meaning of a true relationship. Be honest and open with him. If the two of you are mature then you will handle it correctly.

Remember girls, you don’t have to fulfill every trait on his dream girl checklist as no one is perfect. If he’s dating you he obviously thinks you’re attractive.

Girly’s Favorite Quote: He will love you for who you are and not what he wants you to be.

3. Trust

Don’t forget that he has a life of his own. Just because he didn’t call you back for 10 minutes don’t mean he’s been cheating. You cannot be his one and only focus all the time.

Your relationship will be a miserable one if you have no trust in him and you are constantly in the suspicion state of mind.

Lastly, trust yourself, trust that you are the only one for him because of who you are.

 4. Be pretty

Continue to doll up even though it’s been long since your first date. Make him feel that you are still putting in effort and looking forward to dates with him. You don’t have to be as hot as Jessica Alba to make him feel proud of having you around.

5. Be Independent

If you feel entitled to all of his time and attention, learn how to not be an obsessive girlfriend. Don’t be an “over protective girlfriend” let him go out without him feeling watched. Remember that he doesn’t need you for everything and that you are separate people as well as a couple. When he needs some space, don’t take it personally.

But do make sure he will always be there for you when you need him.

6. Listen to yourself

Don’t let your friends try to manage your relationship. It’s your relationship and no one else’s. You don’t have to listen to every piece of advice from your friends if you don’t want to.

7. Save up on that jealousy

Jealousy is a very dangerous thing. Don’t intentionally make him jealous. That will result with a lot of problems and difficulties within your relationship.

Similarly, don’t get jealous over every little thing. Be more open on things like him making conversation with girls or studying with a school mate.

8. Say it!

In any healthy relationship, you will have your share of conflicts, some tiny, some big. Remember to be true to yourself and try to abandon any significant selfishness. A relationship is a matter of teamwork and a symbiotic relationship, not a parasitic one, where a party gives and the other one just takes without giving enough back.

We do not expect things to change in a wink of an eye as everything take time. Especially in a relationship, everything takes two hands to clap, everything have to be mutal… to be able to appreciate.

In the next post, girly editor will explore simple things that girls can do to surprise your special someone!

Girly Lash Post 3

30 Sep

Hi Girls, if you are trying our eyelash extensions, take note of these…

 Important Facts of Eyelash Extensions

  1. Lashes need to be straight for a successful fake eyelash application. Do not perm eyelashes prior to fake eyelashes procedure; curly lashes are difficult to perfect bonding.
  1. Mascara on eyelashes should be completely removed before eyelash extensions are applied.
  1. Proper bonding is the secret to successful fake eyelashes extensions.
  1. Use the eyelash comb to smooth eyelashes after the application is complete to make sure that no lashes are sticking together. Examine all fake eyelashes to make sure bonding is secure.

Girly: If it’s not, look for your beautician for amendments.

  1. After care; 2 hrs after eyelashes extension treatment – Do not allow water to contact lashes. 2 days after eyelashes extension – Do not steam face, use steam bath, swim or wash face with hot water. Do not use mascara on fake eyelashes, as make-up remover will affect the bonding of fake eyelashes. Do not perm fake eyelashes. Do not use a lash curler, as it will break both fake eyelashes and natural lashes. Do not rub eyes or fake eyelashes when washing face. Always pat dry lashes after cleansing.
  1. Maintenance: The lash life cycle is about 100 days. Fake eyelashes may fall off due to the natural lashes life cycle or because of poor technique or negligent care .  Retouch every 3 to 4 weeks is recommended to maintain best look.

Girly’s Verdict: On the average, eye lash extensions will usually stay in good condition for up to 2 to 3 week if given proper care. If you really can’t commit a free time once a month, girly editor would suggest not to go for eye lash extension. When the fake lashes start to loosen, it can be quite prickly to the eye and you will have “bald spot” on the thick lash which will make you look kinda funny. Another reason would be the trouble to remove your make up stucked in between the lashes.

But if you really want to try it out, Girly editor would suggest you go for saloon which are more reputable and mostly importantly convenient for you to go for frequent touch up!

Alright, if you think you want an ultimate solution once and for all, what Girly editor would recommend is…

 Eyelash Transplant Surgery

Eyelash transplant surgery can be considered by those who have lost eyelashes through trauma, injury or environmental reasons such as chemotherapy which has permanently damaged hair follicles. Some patients seek eyelash implants because they have damaged their own eyelashes through the use of artificial products and “follicle abuse” such as the use of harsh glues which pull eyelashes out upon removal. Other patients may seek eye lash implants because they have lost eyelashes due to natural processes of aging or even because they were born without a full lush eye lash set.

How is Eyelash Surgery Performed?

Eye lash transplants are similar to hair transplant surgery. Living hair follicles will be taken from a donor site and implanted on the lid of the eyes where eyelashes are sparse or missing. Hair follicles are harvested from the back of the head under local anesthesia. A numbing agent will be injected into the scalp and 100 or so donor hair follicles will be carefully removed and preserved for eyelash replacement.

The hair follicles will be prepared under a microscope to ensure that each follicle is intact and ready for transplant. The eyelid prepared to receive eye lash transplants will also be numbed with a small amount of injectable anesthetic. The prepared follicles will then be carefully transplanted to the areas of the eyelid needing extra lashes, to ensure minimal discomfort and ensure specific placement. After a period of healing, the eye lash transplants will then begin growing normally.

What Kind of Results to be expected from Eyelash Transplant Surgery?

Swelling is experienced by most people. In fact, many patients are able to return to normal activities and may even go back to work the next day. In some cases, the newly implanted eyelash transplants will shed immediately and new growth will not be completely apparent for several weeks.

This is because the new follicles will undergo a “resting” period before experiencing a “growth” period resulting in new, natural lashes. On the other hand, some patients notice and immediate improvement and the new eye lash implants will start growing right away. Either case is completely normal and simply dependent upon the patient but eyelash transplants are considered to be a permanent solution for sparse or thin eyelashes.

A doctor threads an eyelash transplant into woman's eyelid at a surgery in Los Angeles

Looks pretty scary right?

Girly’s Verdict:  As much as we want permanent long lashes, the thought of going through a surgery is scary enough. Most would usually be most concern about the risk no matter how big or small sale the surgery is. Another consideration would be the cost and recuperation period.

Hmm… So what do you girls think? Will eyelash transplant surgery be on your wish list??

Thanks for staying with us! See you next week as Girly editor will give you more tips on how to be a better girlfriend!

“Unbiased, Independent & Brutally Honest Eyelash Growth Products Reviews by Experts and Customers”

The team of experts and researchers has taken the guesswork out of the search for the best eyelash enhancer. They have written many reviews on popular eyelash growth products.

How Does Rate Products? They take an in-depth look at each of the following areas:

Idol Lash Review

Idol lash promises to give women the lashes that they deserve within two to four weeks of usage. This serum is applied like liquid eyeliner on a daily basis and can be even in women who have eyelash extensions.

Does Idol Lash Work?

Idol Lash Ingredients

Potent Polypeptides help amplify the length, thickness and volume. Powerful Polypeptides provide effective protection against breakage and naturally supports longer, stronger more
voluminous lashes.

Vital proteins and vitamins help replenish and fortify. Panthenol and rich minerals join forces to help replenish and rejuvenate lashes with essential proteins and vitamins that provide strength, shine and enhances lashes.

Idol Lash Pros:

Idol Lash Eyelash Enhancer is clinically tested and has been proven to work when it comes to lengthening and strengthening eyelashes. Users who have tried the product have experienced a significant increase in the length of their eyelashes within the said amount of time.

Over 82% of the respondents of the clinical trial have experienced an increase in the density of their eyelashes, and this is a huge number in comparison to other eyelash treatments.

It does not contain harsh ingredients, like the prostaglandin analogues bimatoprost and lanatoprost, which are found in several eyelash lengthening products. These prostaglandin analogues do work to increase the length of the lashes, but they also produce several possible side effects. Some of these side effects may be dangerous to the eyes. However, it works just as well as these other eyelash lengthening products, even without the prostaglandin analogues used as the major ingredient.

One thing about Idol Lash is that it is quite difficult to find more reviews of it in the market. The testimonials about the product are limited, but aside from that fact, everything else about the product is impressive.

Idol Lash Side Effects:

There have been no noted side effects about the product. However, it is recommended to do a skin test before starting any treatment in order to make sure that there are no allergic reactions.

All in all, the product Idol Lash Eyelash Serum is very promising. At the same time, the results shown by the clinical tests are very consistent with its claims. It produces wonderful and thick lashes in a very short period of time. This product is well recommended for any woman who wants beautiful lashes.

Latisse Reviews

Latisse is the first and only FDA approved eyelash enhancement product. Produced by Allergen (the same company who manufactures Botox), the prescription is used to treat hypotrichosis, a technical term for having too few eyelashes.

The company confidently promises the users of Latisse fuller, longer, thicker, and luscious lashes. The confidence arises from the presence of the bimatoprost as an active ingredient in the product that is known to promote lash growth.

However, there are reviews that suggest the possibility of allergic reactions to certain ingredients in the product besides few Latisse side effects that is common while using the product. Though most of the side effects are reversible once the use of the product is discontinued, it is a cause for concern among several customers.

Latisse Ingredients:

Active ingredient in Latisse is bimatoprost, which is an FDA approved drug used to treat glaucoma and manage ocular pressure. One of the side effects of using this drug is hair growth, which is effectively used by Allergan in Latisse to promote eyelash growth.

The inactive ingredients include benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium phosphate, dibasic, citric acid and purified water.

Prolonged use of Benzalkonium chloride may cause allergic reactions in sensitive users. Latisse has to be applied once a day to the base of the upper eyelashes with a sterile, disposable applicator for a minimum of eight weeks before expecting to see any noticeable difference in the appearance of the eyelashes.

Latisse Pros:

  • The official website of Latisse provides extensive information on the product, its usage, and the probable side effects and how to treat them.
  • Allergan has the patent for the use of the active ingredient bimatoprost, which is approved by FDA for cosmetic purposes.
  • The product priced at $120 is not very expensive in comparison with other products in the same category and is known to produce results albeit at a slow pace.

Latisse Cons and Side Effects:

  • Redness of the eye, itching sensation at the application site, eye irritation, and dryness in the eye are some of the common side effects of using Latisse.
  • Some customers have complained of darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation) around the application site.
  • There have been cases of the lashes falling out and discoloration of the eyes, may be due to being allergic to one or many of the ingredients, in which case, it is best to discontinue use and seek medical help.
  • The product takes a long time to work, as long as 4 months, to see any noticeable results.
  • Once you stop applying Latisse, your lashes immediately go back their original state.
  • Some doctors aren’t yet familiar with the prescription.

Latisse Side Effects:

Some of the most common side effects of Latisse include redness of the eye and an itching sensation at the application site. The product may also cause eye irritation or dryness. In some cases, users of Latisse noticed hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) around the area where the formula was applied. This condition may be reversible after you stop using the product. Though rare, some users found that Latisse caused their lashes to fall out, which is generally attributed to being allergic to one of the ingredients.

Latisse Coupon

If you’re trying to find Latisse coupon code online – we’ll probably dissapoint you.
There’s zero chance to find any discount for Latisse since, as you already know, this product is provided only with prescription.

And we strongly don’t recommend buying the product online. Though, you can get Latisse as a free gift after a botox treatment.

Latisse replete with all the necessary ingredients to be the best possible eyelash growth product falls short in few key areas:

  • the list of potential side effects,
  • the strict regulations for its usage,
  • the mandatory prescription for its purchase,
  • and the slow countdown to see expected results makes one wonder if its worth going through the hassle to find out whether the product works while there are better options available.

Moreover, the site clearly states that one has to continue the use of the product to maintain the length and thickness of the lashes for once you discontinue usage the lashes return to their earlier appearance in a matter of few weeks.

Revitalash Reviews

Revitalash Eyelash Conditioner belongs to Athena Cosmetics, Inc. an organization devoted to philanthropy by supporting the fight against breast cancer. The product was born out of a doctor’s need to offer his wife a solution for her once beautiful eyelashes left sparse and fragile due to intensive chemotherapy treatments on her way to recovering from breast cancer.

It claims to provide longer, fuller, and thicker lashes anywhere between 3 to 10 weeks, which is a long wait indeed. It is to be applied by a brush applicator only once a day at bedtime to the base of the lashes to boost the beauty of the natural lashes.

Revitalash Ingredients:

The key ingredients of Revitalash include water, Sodium Chloride, Panthenol, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Disodium Phosphate, Trifluoromethyl Dechloro Ehylprostenolamide, and Cellulose Gum.

  • Panthenol is a humectant that moisturizes the lashes making it appear shiny and healthy.
  • Citric acid acts as a natural preservative.
  • Chlorphenesin is a drug used as a muscle relaxant and its side effect is hair growth hence is found in many lash growth products.
  • Disodium Phosphate provides thickness to the lashes.
  • Trifluoromethyl Dechloro Ethylprostenolamide, a prostaglandin derivative is a hormone-mimicking ingredient essential for lash growth.
  • and Cellulose Gum holds all the ingredients together while acting as a thickening agent.

Revitalash Pros:

  • The product comes with a 90-day money back guarantee to attract customers.
  • It is designed to work on both eyelashes and eyebrows.
  • A certain percentage of the sales proceeds of Revitalash are donated to breast cancer research.
  • The presence of citric acid in Revitalash increases the chances of eye irritation and burning sensation in the eyes.

  Revitalash Cons and Side Effects:

  • Side effects of the product include irritation or itchiness at the application site, drying out and redness of the eyes.
  • The official website of Revitalash states that since the product has not been tested under all possible conditions it is best for pregnant or nursing women, those under 18 years of age, people undergoing chemotherapy, and those with ocular disorders refrain from using Revitalash or use it under the supervision of a doctor.
  • Sodium Chloride (salt), an ingredient in Revitalash is detrimental to hair growth causing brittle hair and breakage and hence counterproductive.
  • The presence of two controversial ingredients phenoxyethanol and chlorphenesin that are known to cause severe side effects does not add value to this product.

 Overall Impression

Revitalash Eyelash Conditioner is known to work on some of the customers, but most have been disappointed with the ineffectiveness of the product and the steep pricing makes it even worse to accept the failure of the product to live up to its promise.

In many cases, the product though effective, has taken as long as three months of regular application to notice some visible difference in the appearance of the eyelashes.

In a nutshell, Revitalash has done everything in its power to comply with FDA regulations with its new formulation that excludes the questionable bimataprost but it still contains a prostaglandin analogue that raises doubt regarding its claims of being 100% safe. Few have even suggested that this product be used under the guidance of an ophthalmologist since it has the potential to increase ocular pressure.

Fake lashes

Fake lashes are becoming more and more popular as women want to look more like their favorite celebs with gorgeous fluffy eyelashes.

False lashes tend to add drama and glamour in an instant. But despite the fact they are so widely used nowadays not all women know how to apply them and even how to choose fake lashes. However, it is not really difficult.

All you need is patience and a little practice to ensure you can create a fantastic look with the help of false lashes.

This article will tell you all about the types of fake eyelashes we see on the market today. To know the difference is essential as far as you can select various types of lashes for various occasions.

Generally false eyelashes come in two different varieties.

These are full lash designs and individual lash enhancers. The individual lashes can be good for those who have a great set of lashes, but want to add a bit of thickness to the mix.

For a complete new “soft” look you better choose full lash items.

Color selection in fake eyelashes is also important. There are many possible hues in which the lashes come: from classic black to outrageous pink or bright orange.

So the choice greatly depends on your intentions. If you want to make your eyes look sexy it’s better to select lashes of a more natural color, in case you wish to stand out opt for more bright tints.

Full strip lashes

Full strips come in many forms. The longer and fuller they are the more dramatic effect they’ll add to your eyes. But be careful with the length of the false lashes.

If they are too long they look fake and even a bit comical. So, don’t overdo. Trim them to the length your lashes are or just a little bit longer.

There are plenty of full strip lashes that come in extreme colors: red, fuchsia, green, etc. They give you a terrific look when you go to a party and want to amaze your friends.

Another good choice for that is strip lashes with crystals that glitter when you wink. Looks fabulous!

Another possible decision for confident girls might be feathered lashes, those that really create an effect of feathers on the eyes. Looks extraordinary but interesting. If you feel you can be quite different from others these lashes are for you.

When you want to create a natural look, avoid glittery or very dense lashes and apply your usual mascara.

Three-quarter strip lashes

These lashes are hard to find, but look amazing. They give the effect that all your lashes are more directed to the external corner of your eyes. It looks well either, when you know how to mascara your eyes correctly and apply eyeliner and shadows right.

Individual lashes

Individual lashes create the most natural look. You can’t even tell they’re there most of the time. But they have a drawback either – they are difficult to apply if you have short and scarce lashes.

They work well for girls with their own great eyelashes but willing to make the look more superb!

Lower lashes

And at last lower lashes. Many women prefer to avoid using them widely, thinking they are always seen to be false. Yes, they might be seen if you apply them incorrectly. But if you know and are able to do that right you will have nice lower lashes and nobody will know they are not natural!

Look at how good the Japanese girls are with using fake lashes both upper and lower lash, instantly turns into a true doll!\

So after reading this post, which option would you choose to achieve longer lash? If this two methods are not to your liking, stay tune for the next post as girly editor tells you more on eye lash extensions and transplant surgery!

That Girly lashes!

26 Sep

Ever realise that we girls are getting rid of most hair on our body including armpits, legs, hands, upper lips, bikini line and excess eye brows so that we appear smooth and soft? But eyelashes are the only hair on our body that every girl is dying to extend! Starting from using products like mascara, lash essence, using fake lash, eyelash extensions to surgery like permanent eyelash transplant.

Before we start to know about how we could have longer lashes, we shall first understand how our lashes grow.

How Our Lashes Grow

Our lashes, a thin streak of hair growing from the edge of the eyelids, serve to protect the eyes from dirt and debris. But apart from that it also emphasizes the eyes and is a symbol of beauty and femininity for various cultures. Women in particular love to accentuate their lashes using eyelash curlers, mascaras, and false eyelashes. Nowadays, there are already some clinically-proven products that stimulate the eyelash growth of thicker, fuller, and longer eyelashes.

Like any other body hair, the eyelash grows from hair follicles—pits in the dermis where hair cells rapidly divide causing the shaft to increase in length. It involves three phases namely the anagen, catagen, and telogen stage.

The anagen is also known as the growing stage, where the cells at the hair root are rapidly dividing causing the shaft to be pushed upwards. Our eyelashes stay at this phase of active hair growth for about 1 to 2 months. Following this, during the catagen phase, the hair will start to shrink that signals the end of the hair growth. Finally, the hair will stop growing and a club hair that is detached from blood supply is formed. This is the telogen or the resting phase. Eyebrows, eyelashes, and most body hair or vellus stay at this stage for longer durations compared to scalp hair, which is why they typically do not fall off as much as the scalp hair does.

But unlike scalp hair, the eyelash grows very slowly, taking up to several months before achieving its full length. The slow growth of the eyelashes can be further aggravated by an unhealthy lifestyle like alcohol drinking and smoking. Other factors like genetics, hormones, nutrition, and even hygiene can also affect the growth of the eyelashes. As a result, our eyelashes grow at varying rates for each person. In some cases, the lashes may even fall off as a result of infection such as leprosy; autoimmune disorders; drugs; congenital deformities; and the presence of a certain face mite called the Demodex folliculorum. Other causes of the loss of eyelashes are burns, accidental cutting, or simply a natural hair fall.

Full and long eyelashes are important to uphold fashion and femininity for women nowadays. And because the eyelashes highlights the overall look of a person, several beauty products are available is almost any beauty stores around the globe.

Mascaras are the most commonly employed means of enhancing the eyes, as well as the cheapest and most widely available method. Eye mascaras create an illusion to the viewer of a thicker, darker, longer, and livelier eyelash. Some make-up artists would even blend other colors to create a more vibrant shade. In addition, eyeliners may also be utilized to define the contours of the eyes. In the modern times, a woman’s make-up wouldn’t be complete without it.

The application of false eyelashes is also very common that it gave birth to another technique called eyelash extensions. Eyelash extensions works just like hair extensions—they simply add length to a person’s hair. But unlike fake lashes, extensions are made from synthetic materials that are applied individually per strand of hair to produce a more natural yet a fuller look. The downside of this is that the adhesive used to attach the extensions will eventually be removed and the extensions will fall off.

Currently, the latest, most popular method of stimulating the growth of one’s lashes that is recommended by top beauty experts in the United States is the Idol Lash, a liquid application similar to eyeliner. To apply, the product is simply put on to the base of the upper and lower lash line once a day for around 2 to 4 weeks. And in as short as a couple of weeks, the effects will become visible: darker, thicker, and fuller eyelashes for a dramatic look. The plus side of the Idol Lash is that it uses clinically-proven safe and effective ingredients such as chamomile extract, hydrolyzed keratin, linoleic acid, and butylene glycol without any side effect.

Other modern techniques involve surgical means like eyelash transplantation and the administration of medications such as Latisse, a FDA-approved drug intended for glaucoma which can also cause the growth of thicker and longer eyelashes. This is quite expensive and may cause side effects such as itching and redness, and worsening of conjunctivitis and other eye diseases. Hence, it will be necessary to check with your ophthalmologist first before using such product.

After understanding the growing mechanisms of eye lash and the different techniques on extending our lashes, in the next post, girly editor shall share more on lash essences and the different types of fake lash suitable for different occasion.

See ya!
